Bringing Back The Lost Art of Paper Mache

This is Jeopardy!

Jeopardy is easily the best game show on TV. You will get smarter by watching it--which is more than Family Feud can say.

A couple of nights ago while making cheese (how to blog to follow soon), Paisley, Amirtha, Andy & I watched about 6 shows online in succession. One episode, however, stood out. It was mainly because of this contestant: Paul Engggeldorf

CLICK HERE TO Watch, it's the only way you'll grow to loathe him as much as we all did. It's also the only way what we did next will make any sense.

Here's the play by play for those who are at work and can't watch TV on the clock....If this is the case....I would seriously consider if this is the job for you.

SHOW OPENS, Alex makes small talk, the game is underway.
Paul talks nasally through his nose for the entirety.
He rolls his eyes at almost every question.
He lacks emotion.
FINAL JEOPARDY
The question: Which two great lakes border two states?
Paul answers wrong. He can't believe it.

We all sat there feeling a bit vindicated to be honest. But, to add insult to injury....

WE FOUND HIM ON FACEBOOK!!!!!!!

In addition to friending him, we left a personalized message. I'm sure it haunts him to this day....which is why he probably won't be accepting my request anytime soon.

The best birthday gift

As my gift for turning 23 yesterday, Paisley Ann McCollum has set her blog layout to DEFAULT BLUE. The most boring color scheme both sides of the Mississippi.

"I changed my template to one of the pre-set options found on blogger. I want you to enjoy your birthday without fear that someone might have a better layout than you. Not that I'm saying I have a better layout. I just want to eliminate any worries from your mind since this is your birthday and you deserve at least one day of relaxation."- PAM

Why all the blog layouts?

If you frequent this blog as much as Shaq does, you've noticed I have redesigned my blog layout roughly a thousand times.

It all started with Paisley.

My freshman year in college, Paisley and I became what many in the 12-17 age range would call "besties". That was all and well, but introducing ourselves to new people became rather troublesome. I quickly learned that introducing myself before Paisley would illicit this response:

A: "I'm Ally"
"Oh, nice to meet you"
P: "And I'm Paisley"
"Oh!!!! That is just the most wonderful name. So precious. What do you do? Wanna hang out?!?"

If I were to introduce myself after Paisley, this was sure to follow:
P: "I'm Paisley"
"Oh!!!! That is just the most wonderful name. So precious. Can I name my future daughter that? Want some of this free candy??!?"
A: "And I'm Ally"
"Cool. Mmmmm....So Paisley, how about some of that free candy????"

Thus, I've been living in the P-Shaddow for the last 6 years of my life.

Over the years I've realized that there are just somethings that Paisley thrives in:

having the more impressive name
maintaining serious & meaningful relationships with a significant other
modeling all over the world
knitting
comedy
improv
living as a decent human being...

....and sometimes I thrive ---or at least am a little bit better than her at--- which happens to be...

graphic/web design.

So when I stumbled upon the new look of her blog---well--- I couldn't believe the sleek lines, attention to detail, breathtaking colour scheme, HTML coding, and widget prowess....to name a few. Sure the header photo could be a tad resized and colors retouched, but hey! who I am I to judge? Oh yeah, that's right, a graphic artist.

And to make matters worse, and despite my best efforts to steal it, she would not give me the HTML code to her site. For the first week, I sat inside with the curtains drawn and the windows open. The sirens masking my secret weeping. I slept with plus-size-women's beachtowels to catch my falling tears. I didn't change my clothes for days...which actually isn't anything different. This dark night of the soul lasted too long until one day I had had enough.

Only recently have I realized that I must fight for the Truth. I must regain my status. She must know that she can't have everything.

It was time to design.

This morning I awoke to her in the bed next to me. I can't remember what happened the night before, but in what what would seem to some a daze, she admitted that my layout was better.

So this will remain the look and feel until Paisley can draw the curtains, open up Google in Safari, and pray to God she can find a better looking template.

I'm not resting on my laurels, I know she'll be back. If anyone has any hints, tips, tricks, jokes, misc, & etc. I would be open. Please do not post these in the comments box as I am sure Paisley has an RSS feed on my comments (jajajaja) but we will arrange to meet in a private location.

And if you are not convinced by all this, let me just say that I was a cuter kid than Paisley and here is the proof.

"You Cook Like A Hobo" -Dad

My dad says I "cook like a hobo" because I throw everything I can find into a saucepan and hope for the best. Well, today, I struck street gold!

Ingredients:
1 brussel sprout
1 corn tortilla
2 large asparagus
1/4 diced cauliflower
1 red onion
1 white onion
1/2 avocado
1 can of V8 juice
tabasco
1 slice of provolone cheese
splash of milk

in saucepan add cauliflower, 2 types of onions, can of v8, tabasco to your heart's desire, splash of milk, & provolone.

cook on high for 15 minutes.

steam brussel sprout & asparagus for 7 mins

brown brussel, asparagus, & torilla in pan til divine.

add avocado because it's always good.

END RESULT: that's right...i ate the bowl itself.

velcumm to the big show

So I think this is a big deal, because I've never played in front of more than a handful of people, but we (poor friends) got selected to play at this art show along with 2 other groups & a dj at The Ragazzi Room May 9th. I think there might be like 100 people there.

Unfortunately, my other half, Lewis, will not be in attendance, but I have 2 lovely youngsters playing bass & delish guitar Kevin Foss & Peter Hessenius.

If you can come that's cool, but mostly I just wanted whoever reads this to know that I am really excited about this.

I posted 3 new rough draft songs today you might want to check out at myspace.com/poorfriends

If you've never checked it out, well then, they are all new songs and that is really exciting prolly.
