FOUND FRIDAY

THIS WEEK IN FOUND FRIDAY, a lovely friend Carly Correa experiments with spanish found poetry...Harry Potter to be exact. Check out Carly's blog for more fun & gamez.

"Here's a found poem from a Harry Potter book in Spanish that I made a couple of week ago that broke my hard drive. Yes, it broke my hard drive. My computer got a virus while on a janky Spanish translation website. I lost photos since April, so if you know of any hackers that are of high moral standard, send me their way.

Found poems are created by taking elements from an existing page of a book and then blacking out the rest. If you read my the poem, it almost creepily alludes to the fate of my computer. "- Carly

The Price is WRONG

Coming On Down With Capybara & Friends

While the 530am-330pm waiting in line event was one of a kind, this television show viewing left us feeling less human & less likely to ever watch again.

Here's a photo at the height of our excitement. It went swiftly downhill from there, with the exception of Showtime (of course).

The one thing I will say is this: though none of us "came on down", we felt emotionally connected to about 99% of the people who did. This was undoubtedly due to the long waiting and taxing process we all endured together.

For example, the couple on their 11 year anniversary warmed my heart in ways no one will ever warm. They were some of the most friendly people and when April's name was called first to come on down we went ape crap with excitement!! That felt good.

(congrats on your electric kayak...you can use in your hometown of urban Dallas, TX)

And Zella...she was there in '89 and now she is 89!!! Along with her 2 daughters and granddaughter, Zella was pumped to play! When she got called up it took her forever to get to the biding area...not because she's 89 but because every single person wanted to shake her hand or wish her well. That was really nice.

Cheer up Gail

There are countless others I felt a deep connection with...the complete office of Tooth & Nail Records handing out candy, the beautiful faced 9 year woman Marine Captain from Camp Pendleton I followed into the bathroom just to look at her face closer, the old school christian band Kutless, and the very loud Keith.

The most dehumanizing moment was at the end where the announcer asked us to cheer if we wanted cash or cheer when we wanted prizes as audience members that didn't get picked. Everyone was just so desperate and downtrodden by this time we were all screaming and clapping and waving our arms in hopes of getting something to show for our endeavor.

"Wellll! You're in luck because someone here is going to win $100 and a TINY prize!!!!!!!!!!". What??!?! So they did a raffle and gave away a bill and a DVD behind the scenes of Price is Right.

In summation, and the words of Andy Deyoung,

"Price is Right stripped us of our humanity and made everyone act like starving baby birds"

So would I do it again? Probably not.

But who's down for Conan?

Now watch these two videos of Capybara. It's delish.

Storytime With Charlotte McCollum

Especially living with Bern, Paisley, & Charlotte I feel I hear a good amount of stories each day. And with my new fascination with This American Life I think it's only appropriate that I have a storytelling feature on my blog as well.

I thought Charlotte McCollum would be a great first Storytimer for a number of reasons but mostly because of what she did to the brown couch (don't worry, that story will never be a feature story here CharCharBinks).

Charlotte has a gift. It started 2 years ago at 3rd street promenade. She sees LOST people.

First, it was Charlie.

Fast forward to San Francisco, Trader Joes. He spoke to her.

Pricillas Coffee was her third sighting, with LOST's most faithful husband: Bernard

Bring it back to 3rd street promenade last night! Ben Linus & Rousseau's daughter ALEX! She bought a "really sparkly dress" from Char at FCUK.

Charlotte has a gift. And I'm happy she let me share it with the world. Updates to follow. Who do you think (hope) will be next????

*******

UPDATE: Yet another McCollum sister has made a LOST sighting. LAdies & Gentleman, presenting: Felicity McCollum & Penny.

Community Coming Soon

This is somewhat in response to a blog i enjoy everythingisinspiration.com--specifically an entry about communal living. I am almost first in line for anything that looks, feels, sounds, or (most appropriately) smells like community.

My fascination for communes and gardens and summer camps and winter camps and sharing and caring is so ingrained in me that it's become, in many ways, the proverbial thorn in my conservative-ish family's proverbial side.

Note: Big family dinners rarely end without a reference to "Obama: Ally's King", Sweden & Why It Will Never Work Here, and the more reasonably presented but still very very pessimistic "Oh ya... you'll love a commune til someone didn't pull their weight".

But what's a person who loves community to do when there is a great discrepancy between their actual lives and a full fledged sharing homegrown zucchini lifestyle.

The answer: (for now) The Internet.

It sounds like a weak answer--a poor substitute-- but check these 2 most recent needs being met via twitter & facebook status update.

NEED: Flip cam to bring to a focus group that pays $100.

allystoltz: anyone near have a Flip Cam (Ultra U1120) they could let me borrow for one day in October? I would be forever indebted to you.

lesinski: (LMU Lion & Old Flame of a Friend): I don't think I have that exact model, but you can borrow mine.

NEED: Free Physical For The Cruise Ship Job... $400 value

allystoltz: anybody know how I could get a free full physical? it's for a job...get your minds out of the gutter.

Laura August-Schmidt (fellow LMUer and craft mafia woman): venice family clinic? (310) 392-8636 i think that's their appointment number. (if you go on a friday afternoon I can take your vitals!)

I can't thank these two enough and although the internet is less sexy than gardening with Shane Claiborne, I think it should no go unappreciated.

My next need...

I tweeted this (and a few more) a while back...a few nibbles but no catch yet.

allystoltz: Anyone know phil collins?

[In]Disposable Minutes

In the world of disposable cameras, redemption is the name of the game. What was created out of convenience has become one of my greatest joys. Convenience to joy in 30 clicks of a second wind up forgot to wind oops jump that cliff again son. Sorry. I'm old at this.
