I've been dreaming up this project for about a year now, and I'm at a point in my life where I am ready to just jump in--(lettuce)head first.... just (en)dive in and really go(pher) it!
That improv intro sentence couldn't have gone better. Wow. That is just another omen that God wants me to share Animals & Vegetables with the world. Ever since I can remember, I have been fascinated with the uncanny similarity between animals and vegetables. I would argue, it the most obvious similarity on the planet.*
*Exception:
Nevertheless, there is significance in the fact that a mushroom looks like a ram's head. Brocoli looks like water coming out of a whale's blow hole, and a....well, I better not tell you any more...gotta leave some mystery for next week. This world was made to fit together. For everything on this earth, there is also something that exists soley to be with that thing.
Man for Woman. Wood for Fire. Animals for Vegetables.
Buckle up, people, because this aint my first rodeo and you are about the adventure into unknown territory. I'll post weekly animal & vegetable works and suggestions are welcome.
I follow this blog of a man named David Horvitz. He creates missions for you to do. And then you do them. Today's was to draw a picture of a taxi driver. And then you mail the picture to Iowa and it will go in an art gallery.
One I just finished, one I'm almost done, and one I am unbelievably desirous to see.
Confessions of a Superhero might be the top 5 documentaries I've ever seen. I finished it last night and you can watch it for free on hulu. It is very worth your time. It follows four super heros of Hollywood Boulevard...Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, & Hulk. These four characters (on the street and off) could each have their own movie. They are so fascinating you won't believe their stories are real....and maybe they aren't. It seems that the life of a fake superhero gets a little convoluted and sometimes their character's personalities get a little mixed up into their own until they really can't tell who is who. Please watch this film.
Second is The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill. I'm almost done with this one, and those the concept seems simple....The story of a group of wild parrots living in San Francisco, there's so much more to it from their eccentric caretaker, to the theories of how they even got there, to the very interesting facts founds and observations made through years of living together in the same city as these birds. This is a must see as well.
Lastly, I can't wait to watch Please Vote For Me. There's a bit of controversy as to if this is China's very first elementary school Monitor's Election (some claiming they've done one before), but, nevertheless, the ruthless tactics, dirty politics, and interesting insights into the human desire for power makes me just wanna stream it on Netflix asap...once I get wireless internet again since my brother took the router with him to his apartment. Nice.
There's great risk in trying to start a weekly blog feature like "Found Friday" but my great love for FOUND POETRY might be enough to do something consistent for a change.
I started doing found poetry, bored one day in a coffee shop surrounded by a multitude of outdated newspapers. The results were actually surprising. Just because you are musing off the words of another doesn't necessarily mean they can't be transformed into your own.
I have recently been using a Henry David Thoreau book which seems to have some very interesting words on its pages. Also, romance novels do just fine. There's way more in store such as newspapers, street signs, billboards, photos (just wait), other people's stolen journals (maybe...you never know), and more.
Today's poem was subconsciously inspired by an interesting conversation with a friend's mom over the honor a soldier feels when fighting a war.
I am completely captivated by almost all street performers. Juggling. Singing. Break dancing. Dancing on glass. Live painting. Bad beat boxing. Bad singing. Bad juggling. I love it all.
My fascination is not dependent on talent, though a talented act will catch my eye every time. This video I took a couple weeks ago by myself on 3rd st promenade. I just felt this fresh group of fellows had something special and I wanted to share it with you peepholes.
